Things I don't buy as a minimalist

Since becoming a minimalist in March 2018, I have stopped buying some things and today I want to share them with you.

  • Clothes. I just buy the ones I really need. For example, I really needed a pair of black jeans. I waited around 3 months and finally bought a pair of Levi's 711 premium jeans, and I really love them. Unfortunately, I bought them on Black Friday, which I am not too proud of, but they are good quality and will probably last me a long time. By the way, I am packing them for my next trip (my packing list just here)
  • Home decor. I just feel that it is a total waste of money to buy cheap home decor and it really adds up to visual clutter. I rather have my space clean and clutter free.
  • Memories. I'd rather take pictures on my trip than buying physical memories of the places I have been too. A lot of us collect magnets to put on our fridge, but once again, it's clutter to my eyes.
  • Cotton pads. I mean the disposable type. Do you know how many you use per day. I used to use about 4-5 of them per day, 5 times a week (when I was wearing makeup for work), so about 1,300 per year. That's just way to much. I invested in reusable cotton ones, and I love them. Just put them with your regular laundry load, and you will be fine. Don't expect them to stay white, that's all 🙂
  • Tampons and pads. They are just so much waste and so damn expensive! I tried using a menstrual cup around 4 months ago. I have to admit, it takes some time to get used to it, but it has changed my life! I have donated most of them to my best friend, and only kept few of them if I need them during my travels.
  • Specific cleaners (toilet, surfaces, windows, shower). I just use a simple mix of 1/3 of vinegar and 2/3 and water. It works like magic for everything. If it's really dirty, just spring some baking soda on the surface and then add some vinegar. Warning! It foams a lot 🙂
  • Liquid shampoo and body wash. I hate plastic containers, so I bought a bar of soap and a solid shampoo. Just like the menstrual cup, you will need some time to adjust, but it's amazing. You will save money, plastic, and weight in your backpack (my packing list right here)
  • CD/DVDs. I have donated all of my DVDs and CDS (you can find E-V-E-Y-Y-T-H-I-N-G online) and I have only kept the ones i really love (two CDS of Celine Dion and one of Tchaikovsky)
  • Books. I don't buy physical copies of books. I bought two this year that I really wanted.
  • Mr. Tabloids. I used to buy one people magazine every time I would go on holiday, but I don't anymore. I don't care about those gossips and stars drama anymore. I would rather focus on my well being 🙂
  • Bottled water. Just buy a reusable one instead, the Earth will thank you! And it tastes so much better anyway 🙂

Can you relate to any of those items? How below 🙂
